Partner Shawn Evans primarily practices in the area of civil litigation including cases involving Condemnation (Eminent Domain), Workers Compensation, Personal Injury, and Wrongful Death. Mr. Evans also practices in the area of criminal defense.
Before joining the Law Group, Shawn worked for three years as an Assistant Attorney General representing the North Carolina Department of Transportation in Condemnation cases across the state in Superior Court. Shawn devotes a substantial portion of his practice to helping land owners across the state who are impacted by Eminent Domain takings. He has experience resolving multi-million dollar claims, complex commercial claims, agricultural claims, and residential claims. Shawn has completed Basic Appraisal Principles and Condemnation Appraising (Principles and Application) classes taught by The Appraisal Institute.
Shawn has a unique and diverse legal background and has significant jury trial experience including over 40 jury trials in North Carolina Superior Court (both criminal and civil) and Federal District Court. In addition, Shawn has tried hundreds of bench trials at the district court level in state court. Shawn served as a prosecutor in Raleigh for almost 8 years, including three years as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. Shawn has experience dealing with all levels of criminal charges from DWI to First Degree Murder as well as Federal Narcotics, Weapons, and Money Laundering Crimes.
Shawn is from Lumberton, North Carolina. He is an Eagle Scout and attended Appalachian State University on a full academic scholarship. While at Appalachian Shawn was a varsity athlete and was a two-time First-Team All-Conference honoree in Cross Country. Shawn was a member of the Student Government Association where he drafted and passed legislation implementing the online traffic ticket appeal system. Shawn graduated with honors with a double major in Finance and Insurance and Risk Management.
Shawn is a member of the Fifth Judicial District Bar and The New Hanover County Bar Association.
Shawn and his wife Katie are parents and have an adopted dog. They have returned to the Wilmington area where Katie grew up, to be closer to family in Brunswick and New Hanover Counties.
